PhD Reality

Regardless of our field of study, university, or our country, our PhD journey looks the same

Whether you study physics or philosophy the requirements for PhD candidates in Europe are the same, i.e. reaching academic excellence and finishing PhD in time with the highest academic records (in the form of publications or patents).

For all the PhD candidates, meeting these requirements results in very similar behaviors, emotions, and mental states.

We all work a lot, worry and stress about our progress, and feel lonely in our academic challenges. Going through the same things we understand each other very well!

Ewa Pluciennicka, PhD

Hi, I’m Ewa Pluciennicka, PhD.

I’m a doctor of cognitive psychology, a former neuroscientist, and the founder of PhD Success. For the past five years, I’ve helped over 5,000 PhD students optimise their working style so they can complete their PhDs on time and produce high-quality work without unnecessary stress and overwhelm.

I’ve worked with individual PhD researchers, run online PhD support groups, and delivered training at universities.

Through this work, I’ve seen how much PhD students can struggle with workload and academic pressure, not only affecting their productivity, but also their happiness and mental health.

I believe every PhD student deserves a helping hand through this challenging journey, including practical support to take care of their wellbeing while making progress with their research.

I hope this Mental Health Self-Assessment Checklist gives you a simple opportunity to pause, reflect, and take that first step.
